Outreach
Human-computer interaction is a key to making technology more useful, more accessible, and more stimulating to people. The success of the information technology revolution will not be measured merely by increased performance speed, memory capacity, bandwidth, or even by the number of Web pages on University servers. It will be measured by the utilization of these technologies by people who wish to accomplish work tasks beyond operating computers and software, to learn about concepts and skills beyond information technology, or just to relax.
The Center uses existing partnerships with community organizations, foundations, and commercial organizations to help facilitate change in society with respect to the potential utilization of information technology. We are building upon and expanding our current partnerships with the State College Area Schools, the public access television and community Internet portal (C-NET and CenterConnect), and other community-oriented organizations, though projects currently supported by the National Science Foundation.
